The north Seven Mile Beach area has beautiful white sand beaches, great snorkeling and the condos in this area are a very good value compared to the prime central Seven Mile Beach area. Most of the condos here are older, but have all been fully renovated since 2005. The new luxury Renaissance condo resort, which opened in 2010, is the only luxury rental condo resort in the area.
It is a 5 - 10 minute drive to the shopping & restaurants in the central Seven Mile Beach area. There is one supermarket about a 5-10 minute walk north of Silver Sands as well as a couple of small shops, but not much else. A car rental is recommended if you stay in this area.
The beach is fine white powder sand along much of this area. The beach in front of Discovery Point Club can have small rocky sections at times. These rocky sections tend to come and go as the prevailing currents move sand around ... and there is still plenty of fine white sand between the water and the resort pool area..
The snorkeling generally gets better the further north you go. The Cemetery is the best known snorkeling site on the island and is just a short stroll from Silver Sands. If you swim the 40 yards out to the reef, you will see a number of large colorful coral formations teeming with schools of fish. Sea turtles and stingrays are also often seen. There is parking across the street as well. The USS Kittiwake was sunk in this area in 2010 and is now an excellent dive and snorkel attraction. Snorkel over the intact ship or dive and explore the superstructure and the interior of the ship.
